Vimy hike

Many things happened but its summer, so it a shorter version of my newsletter, at least I put a lot of photos in.

 

Viele Sachen sind passiert aber es ist Sommer, so deshalb habe ich etwas weniger geschrieben, zumindest habe ich eine menge Photos reingepackt.

Living and dinning room renovation 

We had our living dinning area empty, sold the couches and storaged the old dinning room set at Erica's Dad as Erica wants to keep this for herself. We got someone who painted the ceiling, including the hallway. Lettie painted the walls and than we got our brand new leather couches and ottoman delivered by the Brick. And a day later we became my in laws dinning room set. It looks great, feel so grown up.

Wir haben unser Wohn und Esszimmer renoviert. Nachdem wir unser Esszimmer Erica gegeben haben ( die es bei ihrem Papa untergebracht hat bis sie irgendwann mal auszieht ) und unsere Couch Garnitur verkauft haben, hat Lettie die Wände gestrichen. Wir haben dann die guten Esszimmer Möbel meiner Schwiegereltern bekommen und haben eine neue Leder Garnitur gekauft und ich muss sagen es schaut recht gut aus.

Mike and Catherine and their friends from Holland

We had Mike and Catherine over a few tes with their friends from Holland. One  day we had BBQ and another delicious KFC. Nicole went with them to Head smashed in and also stayed with Cath and Mike over night at their Hotel, so Lettie and I could have a date.

Mike und Catherine (Letties Schwester und Schwager) besuchen und mit ihren Freunden aus Holland. Wir hatten Sie ein paar mal zum Abendessen bei uns, und Nicole hat eine Nacht mit der Tante und dem Onkel im Hotel übernachtet, was sie natürlich ganz klasse fand. Die beiden haben sie auch mit nach Head smashed in genommen, einer alten Indianer Gedenkstätte.

Hike to Vimy with COC - I did it again, 2nd time in 3 years. It's alltogether 8 hours, including 45 min bike ride one way and 3.5 hours hike up and 2.5 hours down plus breaks. The views from the top are stunning and the weather was much better than expected. It's just the bike ride back seems not to end, so tired and exhausted at that point.

Bin zum zweiten Mal hoch auf Vimy Mountain in Waterton, alleis in allem eine 8 Stunden Wanderung inklusive 6 km Rad fahren. Die Aussichten von dem Gipfel sind schon wahnsinnig Klasse, so eine tolle Sicht hat man nicht überall in Waterton aufs Dorf.

Erica at Forest junior ranger camp - July she is gone and working near Rocky Mountain house and what we hear so far she's having a great time being out and working with kids her age.

Erica ist für 7 Wochen als ein junior Waldarbeiter im Norden Albertas. Sie hilft mit anderen jugendlichen bei verschiedenen Projekten.

Nicole and I went to the Lethbridge Airshow, and like the few times before we went to the airport instead to the overcrowded Airshow ground. We had a good spot and could see and hear like we would be in the front row.

Nicole und ich waren auf der Flugshow, zwar nicht auf dem Gelaende wo man bezahlen muss, aber wir waren direct am Flughafen Parkplatz und man konnte genug hoeren und sehen.

Family camp CCC - without Erica, wo went to a Party that Weekend, the three of us went to Family Camp in Waterton. We had the Luxury of our own Cabin. On the Saturday we took Nicole's friend Avani with us and hiked to Bertha Bay. Later that day Lettie had a message at the Bay shore Hotel while Nicole and I went to the Prince of Wales for a drink/visit. We had a great time in the Camp, and even the short hail storm we had Saturday night couldn't change our positive experience.

Familien Camp in den Bergen ohne Erica die auf eine Party ging. Wir drei waren wie fast jedes Jahr mal wieder in dem Wochenend Camp in Waterton und hatten zum Glück eine Blockhütte für uns. An dem Samstag haben wir dann eine kleine Wanderung zur Bertha Bucht gemacht wo uns Nicoles Freundin Ivany begleitet hat. Während Lettie später eine Massage genoss haben Nicole und ich das Prince of Wales Hotel besucht für einen kleinen Umtrunk. Wir hatten eine super Zeit und auch die kleine Hagelschauer am Samstag Abend konnte das nicht ändern.

Erica recital - she performed a duet and a solo with great success on her yearly voice recital. It will be the end of her singing cared as her voice teacher moves away and she does not want to continue with someone else.

Erica hatte ihren vorerst letzten Auftritt auf der Bühne für ihre Sing Performance. Ihre Gesangs Lehrerin hört auf und so dann auch Erica, so konnten wir sie aber noch einmal auf der Bühne in der Universität sehen.

Soccer last day - Nicole finished her 3rd season, she was as always very fast with the ball and made the one or other goal. She said she wanted to stop playing soccer now, but when her told her the next team, because of her age, would be a girls team, she decided to go on with soccer after the summer.

I asked her about that while we watched the German women's national team at the FIFA World Cup, and Nicole said "will I be on TV too like those Girls" and first I said no, but than I said "yes Nicole you can of course, if you continue you can reach that goal".

Nicole hatte schon wieder ihre letzten Fußball Tag in ihrer dritten Saison, sie ist sehr schnell am Ball aber manchmal hat sie Schwierigkeiten mit dem Abschluss.  Eigentlich wollte sie aufhören, aber nachdem ich ihr gesagt habe das es eine Mädchenmannschaft gibt will sie nun doch weiter machen. Als wir dann ein Spiel der Frauen WM sehen sagt sie"Papa werde ich dann auch im TV sein?" Zuerst habe ich Nein gesagt aber dann " natürlich Nicole , wenn du dir dieses Ziel setzt kannst du es auch erreichen!".

COC hike Montana at two medicine lake in east glacier Montana up to scenic point. I left at 6 am on a Sunday from Lethbridge by myself to meet members of the club who where camping that weekend down in Montana. It was a great ride down via Babb and St.Mary over the pass to east Glacier. The hike was just gorgeous on a sunny day with no wind and amazing views. Just laying during a break and watching the mountains around you was stunning.

Mit dem Wanderclub war ich dieses Mal in Montana unterwegs. Ich bin früh morgens gegen 6 Uhr die 2 Stunden bis East Glacier gefahren wo ich die anderen, die dort auf dem Campingplatz waren getroffen habe. Die Fahrt dort runter war schon echt klasse, durch die Berge. Es war ein sonniger Tage und die Wanderung war einfach klasse und hatte eine super Fernsicht. Während einer kleinen Pause habe ich die Aussicht auf die Gipfel sehr genossen. Die Wanderung selber war nur 10 km, hatte uns aber schon gut rauf in die Berge gebracht.

Date weekend without kids - Lettie and I stayed at the Aspen Lodge for a night in Waterton while our kids stayed home. We arrived Friday afternoon and went to the Vimy Lounge to see the quarterfinal of the FIFA women's world cup between Germany and France ( which Germany won in a shoot out). Later we had dinner at Pizza of Waterton where we met a nice older couple from Germany who travels for 3 weeks in Canada and the U.S. But the highlight was the Kanu trip on Cameron lake. In 2 hours we went to the end of the lake where we had a wine cheese grapes snack and than back. It was a gorgeous day to be on this lake. The whole weekend was just great and the kids made it for 24 hours without us and had a good time as well.

Lettie und ich hatten ein Wochenende in den Bergen ohne Kinder, diese waren zum ersten Mal alleine Zuhause, was ganz gut geklappt hat. Lettie und ich sind an dem Freitag gegen Nachmittags in Waterton angekommen und haben uns dort das ende des Weltmeister Spiel Deutschland Frankreich angeschaut, welches Deutschland im Elfmeter schießen gewonnen hatte. Später zum Abendessen im Pizza of Waterton haben wir ein nettes älteres Paar getroffen welches aus Dortmund kam vor 2 Tagen und hier in Kanada und Montana (USA) für drei Wochen unterwegs ist.

An dem Samstag habe Lettie und ich uns dann ein Kanu ausgeliehen und sind auf dem Cameron See für 2 Stunden rumgepadelt. Man kommt am Ende des Seees schon in die USA, doch die mit Schnee Bedeckten Hohen Berge lassen einen nicht weiter in die USA kommen.

FIFA women's soccer - Canada is the host and so they have the games (starting with the quarterfinals) on a big screen downtown at the Telegraph. It's a bit like the World Cup when we watched the games on the the location. Do bad that we ( Germany) lost against the U.S., not happy about that.

Wir haben uns einige Spiele der Frauen WM angeschaut, da Kanada der Gastgeber ist wurden alle Spiele ab dem Viertelfinale auf einem großen Bildschirm downtown gezeigt. Leider habe es dann dieses blöde Spiel gegen die USA welches wir verloren haben.

Summer holidays - Lettie is off for 8 weeks and so the kids. Well Erica is working as a junior forest Ranger for 7 weeks. Only I have to work as usual, but I will make the best out of it.

Nun haben Lettie und die Kinder erst einmal 8 Wochen Sommerferien, Lettie arbeitet ja für eine Schule und hat daher auch bezahlten Urlaub. Wobei Erica ja 7 Wochen in einem Jugencamp im Norden Albertas zum Arbeiten ist.

We had our yearly neighborhood fest in the park behind our house, a great event as always.

Wir hatten wieder unser Nachbarschaftsfest im Park hinter unserem Haus, wie immer hat es Spass gemacht.
