Trip to Europe

Lettie is now visiting also her family in Ireland while Nicole and I stay in Germany. Lettie will fly from Duesseldorf to Dublin and take then a Bus to south of Belfast where here relatives lives.

Hike in waterton - We had to cancel our plans to hike and stay overnight in a tent in Waterton. There was a bear warning at Bertha bay and they closed the campground.

July long weekend - I had to work because its not a holiday in the US. Lettie had a cold but we did the best to have a great weekend. We went biking and had a great time in our backyard.

Erica - is going now to climbing week at the UofL, where Serena (the Girl who babysitts Nicole normally) is the Coach, with her older sister. Nicole is going to Melinda while Tera is on vacation, she is ok with it but looks forward to see her friends back at Tera's house.

I am planning to see my friends and family soon in Germany, so I have already scheduled some time with them. Looking forward to be in Germany soon, it will be 2 weeks after sending this newsletter that we arrive.

Lettie and I went for a daytrip to Logans Pass Montana, while Nicole stayed with friends over night. We drove up to Logans Pass and had a lunch break before on a trail by a lake. We stoppped in St. Mary to get some food and booth. I was just a great short hike from the visitor center to hidden lake lookout. The colors and wildlife is just great (see photos above).

A day later I went to Calgary to meet my friend Holger and his dad and a friend how just arrived on Saturday from Germany. They are picking up an RV on Monday and go up north to Alaska. We meet at the Heritage Park in Calgary and I stayed with them from noon to 3pm.. Of course I stopped before at IKEA and had a great cheap breakfast.

Weekend in the Pass - while Lettie met some of her old girl friends in Calgary, Nicole and I went to the cottage. On the Saturday Nicole and I went to Fernie to island lake at Fernie Mt. Provincial park. This lake and the little resort is up high in the mountains. The day after Nicole I and I went on a little hike in the Crows-nest Pass, we hiked on a mountain (while Nicole was sleeping the whole way up) where you have an amazing view over the whole area!

Erica and Lettie went one day to the Yates, the both saw a production of new west theater and really enjoyed it.

We all enjoy our backyard and the nice weather, sometimes we sit in our little kids Pool and we have all our dinners down at the terrace!

Nicole is growing so fast, she is saying so much and understands so much more. It is amazing to see her growing and be part of her life. She also has sometimes the "terrible tooth" and then she is throwing herself on the floor and screams!

Catherine and Mike where here, it is always nice to have them around. I went out with Mike and Peter for a drink one night. Nicole really loves her uncle Mike!

Wir haben nun alles gebucht und freuen uns sehr auf Europa. Lettie wird in der ersten Woche auch ihre Familie in Irland besuchen fuer 3 Tage waehrend Nicole und ich in Deutschland bleiben. Wenn sie dann wieder da ist werden wir 3 Tage spaeter nach Mallorca fliegen wo wir 5 Tage bleiben.

Wandern - wir mussten unsere Wanderung mit Uebernachtung im Zelt absagen da es eine Baeren Warnung gab und der Zeltplatz geschlossen wurde. Erst eine Woche zuvor waren in Montana Camper in ihrem Zelt von einem Baeren angegriffen worden. Ein Frau wachte auf als der Baer an ihrem Arm knabberte. So haben Lettie und ich dan eine Tagestour zum Logans Pass in Montana gemacht, ohne Kinder. In St. Mary Montana haben wir uns mit Lebensmitteln und Bier eingedeckt (Bier kann man in den USA im Supermarkt bekommen wie auch in Deutschland), und haben dann am See erst einmal Picnic gemacht. Oben am Pass sidn wir dann noch durch Schnee gelaufen bis zum einem Aussichtspunkt (siehe Fotos oben).

Einen Tag spaeter habe ich dann meinen Freund Holger getroffen der mit seinem Vater und einem Freund eine Tour started. Die 3 fahren mit einem Wohnmobil hoch bis Alaska. Ich habe die 3 in einem Freilichtmuseum in Calgary getroffen und war dort 3 Stunden bevor ich wieder zurueck gefahren bin. Natuerlich habe ich vorher noch bei IKEA gestoppt und ein paar Sachen gekauft und billig gefruehstueckt.

Waehrend Lettie in Calgary war Freundinnen besuchen, sind Nicole und ich zum Ferienhaus gefahren. Den Samstag waren wir dann im Fernie Mountain Provincial Park am island lake. Dieser Park liegt hoch in den Bergen und wir haben eine kleine Wanderung an dem See gemacht. An dem schoen gelegenen Hotel haben wir dann auch eine Pause eingelegt. Den Sonntag morgen bin ich dann mit Nicole noch auf einen kleinen Berg beim Ferienhaus gestiegen, von wo man ein genialen Blick auf die ganze Gegend hatte, Nicole hatte den ganzen Aufstieg ueber geschlafen!

Meine Schwägerin Catherine und ihr Mann Mike waren hier in Lethbridge zu besuch aus Toronto. Nicole liebt ihren Onkel Mike. Es ist immer wieder nett wenn die beiden zu besuch kommen.

Nicole waechst soooo schnell, es ist klasse ihre Veraenderungen zu sehen. Sie hat aber auch manchmal (typisch 2 jaehrige) ihre Phasen wo sich sich auf den Boden schmeisst und schreit. Besonders jetzt das sie denkt sie kann schon vieles alleine machen, wird sie schnell boese wenn wir ihr NEIN sagen! KINDER ahhhhhhhh :-)) Aber das beste ist wenn sie sagt "Papa lebe dich" was heisst - Papa ich liebe dich!!

Autobahn - Germany's motorway is very extensive and not subject to a generall speed limit, other than a recommended limit of about 80mph (130km/h). But increasingly speed limits are in force on long stretches of the Autobahn. many motorways have only two lanes. To easecongestions, lorries are not allowed to use the Autobahn on Sundays. German motorways are free for passengers traffic. Lorries over twelve tonnes pay a toll known as Autobahngebuehren. On Austrian and Swiss motorways, all vehicles must display a VIGNETTE.

FIFA WORLD CUP

We (all football enthusiasts -and YES its football NOT soccer!!!!!) follow the games with a lot of interest. We talk a lot about this here at work. And now you can see the peoples background, if the are from Holland or Slovenia or Germany. I have my little shrine at my desk, with a flag and a national shirt. I followed the group games via Live ticker and later I wtched the games in the re-play or on the PC, CBC put all games on demand! But I had to make sure that nobody will tell me the result!
The Germans came on Place three after the lost the semi-final against Spain, but won the "little" final against Uruguay. Holland lost "again" a final, this time against Spain.

Unforgettable was Octopus Paul who predicted all German games plus the final game right! He was in a big Aquarium in Oberhausen, and the box with food and the flag of the team, was the one who one the game!

Hike to upper Row Lake

With the COC I tried to hike to upper Rowe Lake. We had to turn around just one Kilometer before the Lake, becuase there was to much snow. We already hiked about some big snow patches, but that was not very steep. On a meadow just before a steep part of the trail we had to turn around, we could not see the trail on the steep part! and the snow was more than 3 feet high. But we still had a nice hike, and the waterfall from the upper to the lower Rowe Lake was just great!

Erica finished elementary school

After 5 years at Dr. Probe school Erica finished. The grade 5 kids had a event for their familys at the Gym, and the got a certificate. For all the school had a BBQ after on the lawn outside the building.

Long weekend in the Pass

While Lettie and Erica went to our cottage the day before Canada day, Nicole and I went the saturday after, because at Sunlife I work at the Canadian Holidays. But I had the US holiday July 4th. of, so that I could stay with Nicole till Monday.
The Saturday inbetween we had a photgrapher coming to our house to make some family photos of us in the backyard. Lettie went back to work on monday morning while Nicole and I had a great 3 hours in Waterton before we drove home to.

CCC in Waterton

Lettie and Erica went to Canyon Church Camp in waterton, the third time in a row. Lettie was the Camp mother and had the crafts corner,l where she had on one day 6 groups for each 45 Minutes!! She said on the phone that she might need holiday after that holiday.

A day at Park Lake Provincial Park

We 4 stayed for a day at the "beach" at Park Lake Provincial Park. This little lake has a nice beach and a place where you can get some food. There is a playground and enough space to have a great day.

Erica beendet die Grundschule

Erica hat die Klasse 5 beendet (Grundschule geht bis 5), nun wird sie von Klasse 6-8 auf die Mittelschule gehen bevor dann ab Klasse 9 die Hochschule kommt.

Wanderung in Waterton

Ende Juni habe ich mal wieder eine wanderung mit dem COC gemacht. Unser Ziel war der hoeher gelegende Rowe See in Waterton. Leider mussten wir auf eine Aue unterhalb eines steilen Anstieges stoppen und umkehren nach der Mittagspause. Auf dem steilen Anstieg war einach zu viel Schnee so das wir nicht weiter konnten. Es war aber trotzdem eine schoene Wanderung und der Wasserfall zwischen dem oberen und unterem See war einfach klasse.

WM 2010

Was fuer eine WM, zu schade das ich waehrend der Spiele arbeiten musste. Konnte aber einig abends in der Wiederholung im TV oder PC anschauen und am Wochenende eh! Hier im Buero hatte ich ein Poster mit dem Spielplan wo ich alle Ergebnisse eingetragen habe. Einige meiner Kollegen waren auch recht interessiert in die WM, meistens wenn sie einen Europaeischen Hintergrund hatten (Holland z.B.). Aber die Mehrheit wusste nicht was da los ist!

Nicole

Sie kann immer mehr sagen, nicht unbedingt in kompletten Saetzen aber man weiss was sie will. Sie hat ihre kleine eigene Persoenlichkeit, es ist klasse zu beobachten wie sie sich endwickelt. Aber wehe sie ist schlecht gelaunt, dann kann sie sich auch schon einmal auf dem Boden werfen und mit den Faeusten und Beinen trommeln. Aber wenn sie lacht dann ist das ein herzliches lachen was sehr sehr ansteckend wirkt.

Ferienlager

Erica und Lettie waren im mitte July eine Woche im Kirchen Ferienlager (wie schon 2008 und 2009) in Waterton. Wie ich von Lettie gehoert habe war sie ziemlich eingespannt das sie die "Camp-mutter" war und auch die bastelecke uebernommen hat, wo sie an einem Tag 6 Gruppen a 45 Minuten hatte!!

Bagersee

Wir 4 waren an einem See fuer einen Tag und haben den kleinen Strand den Spielplatz und die Fritten Schmiede genossen. Die Kinder hatten eine menge Spass und auch Lettiie und ich haben diesen Sonnen Tag genossen. Im Gegensatz zu Deutschland hatten wir diesen Sommer noch keine Temperaturen ueber 30Grad!
